Panic gripped Alisha market area in the Odisha capital after two miscreants hurled country bombs at a mobile recharge shop on Friday afternoon.
According to reports, two miscreants came in a bike and threw bombs at the mobile recharge shop of Radhanath Ojha at Alisha market complex near Sanatorium square under Lingaraj police station limits. Though the havildar on duty SD Baral of Kedaragouri Police Outpost chased the duo, the latter managed to escape.
The incident took place at about 2.30 PM.
Though there was no loss of life, some of the goods inside the shop were damaged while the shop owner and the havildar sustained hearing loss due to the impact of the blast.
It may be mentioned that the two brothers of gangster Tapan of Gadhiakhal under Badagada police limits—Deepu and Biku along with their friends had hurled bombs in the same market complex on Thursday.
Tension ran high in the area as the local businessmen staged a road blockade along Vivekananda Marg and Ravi Talkies Square by burning tyres, demanding immediate arrest of the and demanded the immediate arrest of the gangsters.
The agitating businessmen later withdrew the blockade after the Lingaraj police assured them of arresting the culprits at the earliest.
Meanwhile, a platoon of armed police has been deployed in the market area to ward off any untoward incident.
While the commissionerate police have arrested three family members Tapan including his parents and forwarded them to court, another member of the family and his friend are still at large.
“Police have arrested gangster Tapan’s father Fakir Khatei and mother Sanjulata Khatei and have forwarded them to court yesterday. We have detained one of his brothers and interrogated him. Our teams are raiding different places to arrest other culprits,” DCP Satyabrata Bhoi told the media.
