Bhubaneswar: In yet another incident of gold seizure at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Odisha capital, cylindrical gold bars worth Rs 9.6 lakh were recovered from the wheels of a trolly bag of a passenger on the intervening night of May 3 and 4.
Acting on spot intelligence, officers of Customs Air Intelligence Unit, BPIA, intercepted a passenger, hailing from Chennai, who arrived from Kuala Lumpur by Air Asia flight AK31. Search of his personal baggage resulted in recovery of four cylindrical bars with hole, made of gold, each piece concealed inside wheels of his trolley bag.
The collective weight of the recovered gold is 301.600 grams valued at Rs 9,64,818. Further investigation into the matter is in progress.
Notably, this is the 14th case of gold seizure at the airport in the last two months.
