Bhubaneswar, Feb 15:
Blind faith on her lover boy, proved a little too expensive for a 19-year-old city college girl who was gang-raped in the Bhapur forest area of Nayagarh district by four persons including her boy friend.
Acting on her complaint, the Commissionerate police on Saturday rounded up all the four accused involved in the crime.
The accused, were identified as Santosh Panigrahi (25) alias Mitu, Daka Jena (25) alias Bapi, Bhaskar Sahoo (26) alias Lipu and Sadananda Bharatiya (22) alias Sonu- all from Kurala village in Nayagarh district.
They have been booked under section 376 (D), 294, 506, 307, 363 and 342 of IPC.
Meanwhile the police have sent the accused to the Capital Hospital for medical examination. The victim has also been subjected to medical examination, sources said.
Talking to the mediapersons today, Inspector-in-charge (IIC) of Mahila police station Sarojini Nayak said Santosh Panigrahi who is pursuing his MCA degree in a private engineering college and staying at Bhimtangi area under Lingaraj Police limits had developed a love affair with the girl 20 days ago. The relationship between them began through phone chats, she said.
Police sources said the victim hails from Bihar and was pursuing her +2 studies in a well-known local college here.
On February 13,Thursday, the prime accused Santosh Panigrahi had called the girl and taken her to his village, Kurala, in Nayagarh district in his bike. However, the girl was unaware of what was in store for her.
Unknown to her, Santosh had asked three of his friends -Daka, Bhaskar and Sadananda to follow him in a car.
After a short visit to his village, Santosh took her to the nearby Bhapur forest area apparently for sight-seeing. His friends followed the couple to the same spot and it was then that she realised she had walked into a well-planned trap.
The four gang-raped the girl and dropped her in evening at Jayadev Vihar where the victim stays. They had threatened her of dire consequences if she dared to inform the police, the IIC said.
However, the girl defied the threat and reported the matter to the Mahila Police on Friday night.
“Acting on her complaint, we have arrested four youths today on charges of gang-raping the girl. We have also seized the bike and the car used by the culprits. We have sent them to the Capital Hospital for the mandatory medical examination. The accused will be forwarded to the court today,” Nayak added.
