Irate villagers of Saintala Baragaon in Odisha’s Bolangir district blocked the National Highway-26 on Thursday after a half-burnt body of a girl was found inside a farmland near the village in the morning.
The villagers found the unidentified dead body lying in a farmland between Baragaon and Dumerpada near the NH-26 and informed the police.
Tension ran high in the area as the police arrived at the spot after a long time.
Going by the crime scene, locals suspect to be an act of murder. Given her face and large parts of her body has been burnt, her identity has not yet been established.
A few meters away from the crime scene, a head clip used by girls, a knife, a male underwear, four empty plastic bottles have also been found. Another few meters away from her body, there are marks of scuffle on a heap of sand.
While the exact motive of the murder is yet to be ascertained, police suspect that the assailant and the victim had a scuffle, following which she was overpowered and burnt with petrol.
Sexual assault angle is also not being ruled out as a male underwear was found from the vicinity.
