Commissionerate Police today arrested 21 gana sikshyaks when hundreds of them attempted to gherao the residence of Odisha School & Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra to press for fulfillment of their demands despite assurances.
Gana sikshyaks who were on dharna in front of the Odisha Assembly at Lower PMG square for several days, in a bid to intensify their agitation attempted to gherao the School & Mass Education Minister’s residence. However, police prevented them from doing so and arrested 21 of them.
The Gana Sikshyak Mahasangh is on agitation since October demanding regularization of jobs of ganasikshyaks who have completed six years of service.
The Mahasangh had suspended its agitation following assurance from School & Mass Education Minister on November 27 to take a decision on the regularization of their services by third week of December.
Notably, the state government had formed an inter-ministerial committee of seven ministers to take a call on regularization of jobs of gana sikshyaks.
