The brutal murder of four members of a family including two women has triggered panic in Joranda, the famous seat of Mahima cult, on Sunday.
According to reports, local people found bodies of a local mason Makardhwaj Behera, his wife, son and daughter, in the early morning hours and informed the police.
Following information, police reached the spot and sent the bodies for post mortem.
The deceased were identified as Makardhwaj Behera (52), his wife Sukanti (50), daughter Trifala (22) and son Bikash (20), SDPO Rajkishore Dora said.
While the bodies of Makardhwaj, his wife and daughter were retrieved from a well in the backyard of the house, the body of his son Bikash was found in a room.
The SDPO said it is not possible to conclude anything about the suspects or the motive behind the multiple murder before conducting a proper investigation.
However, local people suspect the crime to have been committed by a close relative because the family was not known to have enmity with anyone in the area.
