Chhatrapur, Feb 5:
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Odisha crime branch today arrested a person for misappropriating funds to the tune of about Rs 55 lakhs from a government corporation with the help of fake documents.
The accused was identified as Rabindra Nath Jena of Bional village under Jagatsinghpur police station, at present working as officer in charge in Odisha Pisciculture Development Corporation (OPDC) at its Chhatrapur Filling Station.
EOW DIG Sanjay Kumar said the case was registered on the basis of a complainant lodged by Amiya Kumar Patnaik, assistant manager of the OPDC fuel outlet, Chhatrapur at Chhatrapur police station on December 29 last year. Investigation in the case was subsequently taken over by EOW.
As per the complaint lodged by Patnaik, the accused has misappropriated an amount of Rs 51,46,274 by fictitiously showing the said amount as credit sales against different customers, including government offices, which is not permissible.
Jena pocketed most of the credit sales and did not account for the same. He has reportedly purchased three tankers out of the misappropriated money and the same is under verification, EOW sources said.
“Jena was booked under section 409 of IPC and will be forwarded to a designated court in Cuttack. The investigation of the case is continuing,” the DIG said.
