Former Odisha minister Lalit Mohan Gandhi died after falling off a moving train at Khariar railway station in Nuapada district today.
According to reports, Gandhi was on the way to Raipur from Titlagarh in Puri-Durg Intercity Express. He alighted from the train at Khariar railway station to have tea.
While reboarding the train, which had already started to gather speed, Gandhi fell down and his leg came under the train wheels. He lost his leg and was rescued in a critical condition following which he was rushed to Nuapada district headquarters hospital.
However, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Notably, Gandhi had held important portfolios like Information & Public Relations and Youth Affairs of the Odisha Government. He was elected from Titlagarh constituency to the Assembly twice– in 1977 and 1980.
