With barely a day to go before campaigning for 66 urban local bodies (ULBs) comes to an end, the focus has now shifted to the Brahampur Municipality Corporation (BMC) with all the three major political parties leaving no stone unturned to ensure victory of their candidates to capture the corporation.
Though the BJD has received a jolt due to the filing of nomination papers by rebel candidates, the party is trying hard to capture the corporation, the major city in the home district of BJD supremo and chief minister Naveen Patnaik. While four cabinet ministers SN Patro, Usha Devi, Bikram Arukh, Kalpataru Das are camping in the 40-ward corporation for the last several days, the ruling party has also engaged popular Odia cine artiste Anubhav Mohanty in the canvassing. Besides, Brahampur MP and cine star Sidhant Mohapatra is also campaigning to canvass votes for the BJD.
The BJD has fielded candidates in 39 out of 40 wards of the corporation.
The star campaigner of BJD and chief minister Patnaik today campaigned for the party candidates in the district. Patnaik also addressed meetings at Polasara, Kavisurjya Nagar and Digapahandi urban bodies.
Odisha Congress in-charge and AICC general secretary BK Hariprasad is scheduled to campaign for the party in the area tomorrow, the last date of electioneering. Senior leaders of the Congress party, including PCC chief Jaydev Jena and Union minister Srikant Jena, will also campaign for party candidates. Former OPCC presidents Niranjan Patnaik and Sarat Patnaik have already wooed the voters in the city. Former chief minister Giridhar Gamang, former Union minister Chandra Sekhar Sahu, leader of opposition Bhupinder Singh, senior party leaders Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra and Jagannath Patnaik, MLA Prafulla Majhi, former speaker Kishore Patel have also canvassed in the city.
On its part, the BJP has stared hectic campaigning in the municipality corporation to put u a good show in the election. While BJP state president K V Singhdeo held road shows here in the last two days, party leaders like former Union minister Jual Oram and party spokesman Ashok Sahu and former deputy speaker Rama Chandra Panda are campaigning in the municipality.
