Bhubaneswar, Jul 23:
These are exciting times air travellers from Odisha. First, it was the launch of maiden international flight from the Biju Patnaik International Airport here by state carrier Air India on July 10. Next was an announcement by AI that it is keen to provide international air travel facilities on all its flights from and to Bhubaneswar and not just the AI 077/078 to Delhi. In between, homegrown Air Odisha announced that it would launch nine-seater, inter-city planes by September this year.
And now comes news that two new no-frills operators – FLYeasy and Air Vistara – are going to start domestic air operations from Odisha.
Both airlines will start their operation in September. Necessary approvals have already been taken and preparations are in final stages.
“While Air Vistara has received approval from DGCA to operate a flight to New Delhi, FLYeasy will connect Bhubaneswar with Bangalore. The winter flight schedules of these operators have also been submitted to the airport authorities,” said Director of Biju Patnaik International Airport Sharad Kumar.
As per the flight schedule submitted by FLYeasy management, the flight will originate from Bangalore Airport at 6:45 AM and land in Bhubaneswar at 8:40 AM. On its return journey, it will depart from Bhubaneswar at 9:10 AM and land in Bangalore at 11:05 AM. It will operate a 110 seater Embraer E-Jet E-190 plane.
After both these airlines start their operations from Biju Patnaik Airport, the total number of flights from the airport will reach 22.
