Malkangiri, Nov 23:
Another barbaric act of Maoists has come to fore after five minor girls managed to escape from their claws who were forcibly kidnapped and were being sexually exploited by the militants in Odisha’s Malkangiri district.
According to reports, few months ago Maoist guerrillas had abducted over ten minor girls from their houses in cut-off area of Chitrakonda in the district.
Fortunately, five of the abductees managed to give a slip to the Maoists after the Panasput police encounter as the militants ran helter-skelter.
These five girls are now staying at a rehabilitation slum.
Narrating her ordeal, Rashmi (name changed) of Maribeda village under Andrapali panchayat said she was studying in class-VII in Nandiniguda Kanyashrama under Kudumuluguma block. She was on Dussehra vacation and passing her holidays happily with family members when the extremists barged into her house and abducted her.
“The red rebels including female cadres used to exploit us physically and were engaging in their day to day work at gunpoint. After death of 30 guerrillas in the October 24 Panasput encounter, the militants ran amok and we five managed to escape from their custody,” she said.
“We walked a long way and reached at Totaguda, from where we took boat to Muduliguda village and then reached at Kudumuluguma by foot,” she added.
The incident depicts how the Maoists are exploiting the tribal on the pretext of striving for their development.
Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra condemning the brutal incident said, “A case will be registered against Maoists on the basis of the girl’s statement and stringent action will be taken”.
