Bhubaneswar: The number of swine flu cases in Odisha has risen to 18 as five more persons have tested positive for H1N1 virus, official sources said on Thursday.
A total of 10 samples were tested today out of which five were tested positive for the deadly virus, sources said.
Sources said blood samples of 138 persons have been examined so far.
Alarmed with the reported outbreak, Health department of the State Government has directed all Government-run hospitals to be ready to tackle the influenza.
Special isolation wards have been put in place in all District Headquarters Hospitals (DHHs) and Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar to handle swine flu cases.
On the other hand, a special ward for swine flu infected persons with six general and two ICU beds have been opened at SCB Medical College and Hospital.
The Health department has also decided to launch an awareness programme on how to avoid the deadly disease.
Notably, between 2009 and 2011, as many as 120 swine flu cases and 32 deaths were reported in the state.
