Five Maoists, including two women, surrendered before the police in Odisha’s Malkangiri district today.

They have been identified as Subha Madkami alias Raju, Laka Kabasi, Bhime Madhi,  Soma Madkami and Debe Madkami.

“The five Maoists were involved in more than 50 criminal cases including violence in Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, mobile tower blast, violence during Assembly election in MPV-21 village in Malkangiri district, attack on Nalco CRPF ordnance unit at Damanjodi in Koraput and killing of innocent tribals as police informers,” Malkangiri SP Mitrabhabu Mohapatra told newsmen here.

Stating that the Odisha government had announced a cash reward of one lakh each on Raju and Soma Madkami, Mohapatra said the five Maoists had decided to surrender as they could not bear the physical torture by the Maoist leaders.

“The surrendered Maoists would be rehabilitated as per the surrender policy of the state government,” he added.
