First phase polling pegged at 75%; repolling in 22 booths

The office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) today pegged the final percentage of polling in the first phase of elections in Odisha yesterday at 75 percent.

“As per the latest information, the voter turnout in the first phase of polls in Odisha is 75 percent. Nabarangpur has recorded the maximum of 82 percent polling”, said CEO Mona Sharma at a press briefing here.

Replying to a question from the media persons, she said repolling would be held in 15 booths in the Chitrakonda Assembly constituency in Malkangiri district where electronic voting machines (EVMs) were either set on fire and damaged by miscreants, and seven booths in other districts where the machines went out of order.

“I have informed this to the Election Commission of India (ECI), which will fix a date of repolling in these booths”, she added.
