Sundargarh, Oct 26:
Police on Sunday claimed to have cracked the murder case of Bonai Zilla Parishad (ZP) member with the arrest of a father-son duo.
The Bonai sub-divisional police yesterday arrested a father-son duo –Laxman Behera (45) and his son Bibhuti (22)– accused of murdering the ZP member from Bonai-B constituency.
The duo followed Oram on a two-wheeler and attacked him near Deogaon with a sharp weapon on Thursday. This murder is fallout of past enmity, police said.
The accused have confessed to their crime. They will be produced in the court of Bonai SDJM, police added.
Police have recovered the sharp weapon and a two-wheeler used in the crime.
The Biju Janata Dal’s (BJD) ZP member—Dasarath Oram—was found murdered by the side of a village road with his throat slit and multiple injuries on his body. Oram was killed while he was on his way home after participating in a Ravan Podi celebration at Bonai on Thursday.
“The villagers had ostracised Laxman and his family after the mysterious death of his wife last year. The Behera family had approached Oram for help. However, he turned them away and held Laxman responsible for the killing of the latter’s wife. The turn of events had irked them and they decided to avenge it,” additional SP (Bonai) Radhabinod Panigrahi said.
After the body of the popular local politician was found, localites had put up a road blockade demanding CBI inquiry into the murder.
