Rayagada, Feb 25:
Police seized 473 fake denominations of Rs 1000 worth Rs 4.73 lakh and arrested a person in Odisha’s Rayagada district on Tuesday.
The arrested, identified as Mushaka Raisingh of Gadavaguda village under Chandili police station limits was forwarded to the court today and later remanded to judicial custody after the court rejected his bail petition.
Briefing newsmen here, Rayagada SDPO Y Jagannath Rao said, the police, acting on a tip-off that Raisingh was attempting to exchange these fake notes with the genuine currency on the plea of purchasing food and other materials, raided the village and seized the fake notes from his possession.
Police have started investigation after registering a case under section 489 (C) of the IPC, he said.
Rao also said since it is most likely that the fake notes would be exchanged at the time of purchase of paddy and cotton in interior villages of the district, police have alerted the people to keep a close watch on transaction of these fake notes and inform the police at once if such incidents take place in their locality.
