Acting on a tiff-off, excise sleuths here seized 19.5 kg of ganja valued at several lakhs of rupees and arrested two persons on the outskirts of the city on Saturday. They were later forwarded to the court, police said.
The accused have been identified as Santosh Hota of Bolagada and Arakhita Ranasingh of Kotasingh, both from Khurda district. Both are smugglers dealing with ganja and supply the stuff to retailers in the state. Police arrested them from Begunia in Khurda district while these persons were transporting ganja from a house.
Excise personnel also arrested two persons – Lili Pradhan from Buddha Park in Chandrasekharpur and Sudam Reddy from Sekharchandi Colony in Patia here – for selling country-made alcohol in the city. The police seized around 15 litres of alcohol from the duo.
A case has been registered against these accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Sec 47A Bihar and Odisha Excise Act.
