A two-member team from the American Citizen Services Unit at the US Consulate General in Hyderabad, visited the jailed US national William Michel at the Jharpada Special Jail here on Friday and collected details of the circumstances that led to his arrest .
Michel was arrested by the city police on Wednesday on charges of carrying eight 0.22mm live bullets in his luggage while he was about to board a chopper to Paradip at the Biju Patnaik Airport here.
The team comprising two deputy chiefs of the unit, Suttom Eagher and Chitra Sanam met with Michel at the jail for over an hour hour. They, however, did not reveal the details of their interaction to mediapersons.
Later the team met with the Bhubaneswar DCP Nitinjeet Singh.
Singh told OST, the team from the American Citizen Services Unit had come only to enquire about Michel’s arrest adding, there was no discussion on how to go about his bail plea.
The Jharpada Special Jail superintendent Rabindranath Swain, who was present during the interaction between the US embassy officials and Michel, too refused to divulge details.
