Dhenkanal: An elephant calf tumbled into an abandoned well in Mahulpunji forest of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district last night.

The baby elephant was spotted by locals early this morning following which they tried to rescue the animal but in vain.

On being informed, Forest officials recahed the spot and initiated efforts to bring the pachyderm out of the well.

The elephant was eventually rescued from the well after a four-hour long operation.

It is suspected that the elephant accidentally fell into the well after getting separated from its herd.
