Sensing that star hotels and shopping malls in Odisha are not adhering to the mandatory safety norms leading to frequent electrical mishaps, the Energy department of the state government has decided to go for regular inspection of all star rated hotels, shopping malls and other public utility buildings to check the safety precautions taken to prevent electrical hazards.
“Major and minor incidents are occurring frequently in the absence of the required safety measures in electrical installations, endangering human life and property. In order to prevent such accidents, it has been decided to make routine inspection of all star rated hotels, shopping malls other public utility buildings and to check the safety precautions provided for avoiding electrical hazards to save human life and property,” said Energy secretary PK Jena.
He also said that suitable training would be given to the electrical inspectors before they undertake inspection of buildings under their jurisdiction.
