Elderly man dies, son critical in cracker explosion in Odisha’s Puri

Puri: Explosion at a cracker manufacturing unit in Pindol village under Gop block of Odisha’s Puri district this morning claimed life of an elderly man and left his son critically injured.

The deceased has been identified as Ranjit Biswal (58). His son Bapi Biswal (25) is undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

According to reports, the blast took place around 8 am while the father-son duo was making crackers on the terrace of their house, which is allegedly an illegal cracker manufacturing unit.

Both sustained grievious burn injuries in the explosion and were rushed to the Charichhak Community Health Centre, where doctor declared Ranjit brought dead. On the other hand, Bapi was shifted to SCB Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

The intensity of the blast was so high that the walls and roof of the house got severely damaged.
