Vishakhapatnam, Mar 11:
Eight journalists from Odisha received the prestigious Laadli Media Award 2015 from the East Zone for reporting on gender issues at a glittering ceremony here on Tuesday night.
Five of the awardees – senior Sambad reporter Bhairab Chandra Brahma, senior MBC TV anchor Itishree Nayak, Konark based journalist and activist NA Shah Ansari (‘Radio Namaskar’ and ‘Namaskar’ weekly paper) and freelance writer Dillip Subudhi – are from the vernacular media.
Four others – Deputy News Editor at The New Indian Express, Bhubaneswar Kasturi Ray, Principal Correspondent at The Times of India, Bhubaneswar Minati Singha, Senior Reporter at The Pioneer, Bhubaneswar Hemanta Kumar Pradhan and freelance journalist Rakhi Ghosh – won the award in the English category.
Altogether 27 journalists from East Zone and South Zone were awarded at the function. The winning zonal entries will vie for the prestigious national level Laadli Media Award. The national level award ceremony will be organised in Mumbai later this month, the organisers said.
The award, instituted by Population First, a leading not-for-profit organisation working on gender issues, highlights, acknowledges and celebrates commendable efforts by various media at providing gender-just perspectives, portrayals and analysis.
‘Laadli’ is a campaign launched by Population First in 2005 to address mindsets that discriminate against women, promote inequalities and justify gender-based violence.
