Bhubaneswar, Sep 25:
East Coast Railways (ECoR) collected a fine of Rs 1.60 lakh from about 600 ticketless passengers during a two-day special drive on Monday and Tuesday.
Apart from this, 42 persons were fined for spitting, littering and violating cleanliness rules.
During the 36-hour-long ticket checking drive and awareness programme at the Bhubaneswar railway station, ECoR authorities advised passengers to buy bona fide tickets from the ticket counters to make their journey hassle-free. Besides, they also advised daily commuters to buy Monthly Season Tickets (MST) to avoid standing in the queue at the booking counters.
The passengers were also encouraged to buy Automatic Ticket Vending Machine (ATVM) Smart Cards and carry minimum luggage while travelling to make their journey comfortable.
About 67 ticket checking staff, including commercial supervisors, Chief Ticket Inspectors (CTI), Train Ticket Examiners (TTE) led by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Khurda Road Division HL Luang from Khurda Road Division, along with Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, were deployed for the drive.
