The selection committee of the Union Sports and Youth Affairs ministry today selected well-known rowing coach Jose Jacob of Odisha for the prestigious Dronacharya award for this year.
Jacob will receive the award from the President of India at a specially organised function at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi on August 29.
The award carries a bronze statue of Dronacharya, a scroll of honour and a cash award of Rs 5 lakh.
In a congratulatory message today, honourary general secretary of Odisha Olympic Association (OOA) Asirbad Behera hoped that Jacob’s dedication will boost rowing and sculling sport in the state.
“I thank OOA for recommending my name for the prestigious award”, Jacob said.
The Dronacharya Award is conferred on coaches for producing medal winners at prestigious international sports events.
