With the Khordha District and Session Judge Court in Odisha capital is yet to declare Rajendra Barik alias Raju, prime accused in the sensational Dillip Nayak murder, a proclaimed offender after hearing the non-bailable warrant petition filed by commissionerate police on July 16, the latter has formed a special investigation team to arrest him and other associates.
Out of a total of 26 accused involved in the murder case, police have so far arrested three persons including Barik’s elder brother Upendra and his nephew Sisir.
“A special investigating team has been formed to nab Barik and his other associates who are still at large. The team will first look out for the goons in the city and then will move to the neighbouring states to arrest their hideouts. We are waiting for the court order on the non-bailable warrant petition filed against Barik earlier,” Twin City Commissioner of Police (CP) Rajendra Prasad Sharma said on Sunday.
Earlier, Zone III ACP Pratap Kumar Swain, investigating officer of the case, said though the police had raided Ghangapatna area following information on the hiding of Barik’s associates in the area, they did not find any one of his associates.
Notably, the 35-year-old contractor Dillip Nayak was shot dead in broad daylight by his rival group led by Rajendra Barik near a construction site behind the AIIMS Hospital in Patrapada under Khandagiri police station on June 18.
