Malkangiri: In what can be termed as a sheer scarcity of humanity in the society, a pregnant woman of Dalapatiguda village under Mathili block in Odisha’s Malkangiri district delivered twin girls at a forest after being refused for assistance by villagers.

According to reports, Gori Pujari (19) suffered from labour pain yesterday while her husband Trilochan Pujari had gone to farmland.

The woman’s repeated request to take her hospital was unheard by the villagers as the latter had ostracised her for marrying a person belonging to a different caste following which the couple settled at a hut on the outskirts of the village.

Left with no other option, Gori decided to walk all the way to Mathili hospital through a nearby forest.

However, she delivered twin baby girls on the way to the hospital. On being informed, an ASHA worker rescued the woman and contacted 108-Ambulance.

She was later taken to Mathili community health centre by the ambulance. The condition of the mother and babies was stated to be stable, hospital sources said.
