Konark, Jun 4:
The demolition drive that started at Odisha’s self styled godman Bana baba’s Konark based ashram today continued on the second day.
While some of the buildings including the Kali temple and the holy fire place (havan kund) had been demolished yesterday, Puri district administration is demolishing the main building today.
The situation remains by and large peaceful in the area. However, seven platoons of forces have been deployed to avoid any untoward incident. Besides, 80 Forest Department officials are also present on the scene.
The law and order condition is being monitored by a DSP and two IICs who are present on the spot.
Notably, hundreds of supporters of the godman including women staged a sit-in in front of the ashram after the administration started the demolition drive yesterday.
Some even clashed with the cops leading to arrest of as many as 25 people including 10 women. 24 of them were later sent to Nimapada subjail after Nimapada JMFC declined their bail plea.
While one of the female devotees attempted self-immolation, her bid was foiled by the security forces present on the scene.
