Bhubaneswar, Oct 25:
The CPI state council on Friday decided to extend support to the state-wide agitation call given by the CPM and Forward Block in Odisha on November 13.
The CPM had earlier called for the agitation on November 13 to press its demand for the declaration of the Cyclone Phailin and the subsequent floods as a national calamity
“We have decided to stage block-level agitations on November 7,” CPI state secretary Dibakar Nayak said after the state council meeting of the party here.
“The devastation caused by Phailin and subsequent floods is massive. About 1.35 crore of people of 18 districts have been affected while crops in more than 17 lakh hectares have been damaged,” he added.
The State council, in a resolution, condemned the loot of relief material in Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and demanded the arrest of Mayor, corporators and government officials under the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA).
It also urged the State Election Commission (SEC) to postpone the Urban Local Body (ULB) elections in 22 urban local bodies in western Odisha to November in view of the devastating cyclone and flood in the state.
