Odisha’s capital city is fast becoming a city of fraudsters. After the arrest of dozens of builders and chit fund operators in the last few months, Commissionerate Police today arrested a man and his wife for failing to provide certificates to the students after completion of their courses in their institute.
Nayapalli police have levelled fraud charges against the couple.
Police sources said Manoranjan Mohapatra and his wife Alka, who were running an institute named Kanaka Institute of Technical Education and Science (KITES) in Behera Sahi in Nayapalli area here had duped hundreds of students promising them to provide certificates after completion of their courses.
The couple took Rs 2 lakh from each student for admissions in their respective courses but after they completed their course the duo didn’t give them certificates, they added.
“A case has been registered in this regard following a complaint lodged by Jayaram Sahoo, father of one of the students. Acting on the complaint, we have arrested the husband and wife,” said a police officer of Nayapalli police station, adding, the duo was produced to a local court here today.
