Kendrapara, Feb 17:
A contractor has landed up in jail for allegedly adopting coercive tactics to get contracts in his favour, police said today.
Police sources said Sangram Jena; a contractor, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly getting contracts awarded in his favour by applying coercive tactics.
Police claimed to have found evidence against him following the interrogation of some people arrested earlier.
Kendrapara SP Rabi Narayan Behera said Jena was forwarded to jail custody after the local court rejected his bail plea.
Jena and his gang were actively involved in tender-fixing of government civil construction work by way of intimidation and muscle power and police was keeping a close watch on them, sources said.
Police swung into action after a complaint was lodged against them.
A sitting Councillor of Kendrapara municipality belonging to the Congress was arrested along with three others last week for allegedly running a tender fixing racket.
