Bhubaneswar, Aug 16:
Seeking to cash in on the issue of Sujata, the minor Dalit girl from Kharinasi village who was burnt to death recently, the Congress will be reiterating its demand for the resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Health minister Damodar Rout for the alleged failure of the state government in providing safety and proper health care to the girl at the public meeting scheduled in Kendrapara tomorrow.
The party will also harp on the alleged failure of the BJD government in providing security to women in the State in the meeting to be addressed, among others, by Union Rural Development minister Jairam Ramesh and AICC general secretary in charge of Odisha BK Hariprasad, party sources said.
Besides Sujata, the issues of irregularities in Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) and MGNREGS, failure in spending of funds under various centrally sponsored schemes will also figure prominently in the meeting, said Jayadev Jena, PCC president.
The PCC president, who is busy finalizing tickets for the civic polls as the nomination process starts from August 20, said observers had been asked to suggest three names from each ward for the elections.
Asked about the show cause notice served on senior Congress leader Soumya Ranjan Patnaik for holding the ‘Sankalp Abhijan’, Jena remained non-committal saying; “The Congress will come to power in the coming election. I am sure I will be able to keep the flock together.”
