The condition of the IT professional and social worker Lincoln Subuddhi, who was brutally assaulted for opposing the marriage of an underage girl in Noida yesterday, has improved marginally, doctors at the Kaliash Hospital, where she is being treated, said on Sunday.
“She is now out of the ICU. She is responding to talk though she still cannot eat or talk. She would be kept under observation for some more time,” a doctor at Kailash Hospital said today.
Subuddhi was brutally attacked with a knife and bricks by the mother of the 11 year old girl and her would be groom for opposing the girl’s marriage to the man. She sustained serious injuries all over the body and underwent 22 stitches.
The mother of the girl has been arrested by Noida police while the ‘groom’, thrice the age of the girl, is still absconding.
Taking serious note of the incident, the Odisha government has asked the principal resident commissioner of the state in New Delhi to liaise with the UP government to bring the culprit to book. It has also asked the commissioner to render all possible help to the girl and her family.
Meanwhile, State Commission for Women chairperson Lopamudra Buxipatra and Rajya Sabha member Renubala Pradhan are scheduled to leave for New Delhi on Monday.
