Shops and commercial establishment in this international pilgrim town remained closed today in response to a shut down call given by the Puri Byabsayee Sangh (traders’ organisation) to protest against the murderous assault on local MLA and Law and Culture minister Maheswar Mohanty.
Gajanan Agarwal, an office bearer of the traders’ body, told reporters that not a single shop in the holy city was open and its own members had found it difficult to even get gutkhas and paans.
The traders’ body today took out a procession from Singhadwara (Lions gate) of the Shri Jagannath temple to protest against the attack on Mohanty and to demand immediate arrest of the culprits.
The pilgrim town the shut down has put tourists and visitors
in great trouble as even eating joints remained closed.
