Bhubaneswar, Sep 18:
To bring in uniformity in the examination system of the 35 autonomous undergraduate colleges in the state, the Higher Education department on Tuesday decided to introduce a common academic calendar for such institutions.
Introduction of common syllabus, uniform dates for holding of semester and internal examinations and publication of results were among the decisions taken at a meeting here on Tuesday chaired by Gagan Kumar Dhal, Higher Education secretary.
The meeting decided that eighty per cent of questions in each paper will be common for all colleges while the remaining 20 percent will be set by the respective college authorities at their own discretion, said official sources. The advice of senior academicians will be sought while setting questions.
Supervision of preparation of question papers has been entrusted with the Higher Education department.
Moreover, a special committee would be formed to undertake quality audit of the teaching standards in these colleges.
The Higher Education department also decided to fill up posts lying vacant in the autonomous colleges by November 15.
The meeting was attended by the director of higher education, vice-chancellors of five universities and principals of all autonomous colleges in the State.
