Clash in city slum over drawing water from tubewell leaves 5 injured

Five persons were badly injured in a group clash between two colonies in Salia Sahi slum under the Nayapalli police limits late on Sunday night, reports said.unnamed

According to reports, the clash took place following a dispute between people of  Binayak Nagar and Vajpayee slum over drawing water from a tube well 12 days ago after which people of Vajpayee slum had approached Nayapalli police and lodged a formal complaint against 8 persons of Binayak Nagar.

Angry over the complaint, a group of people from Vinayak Nagar allegedly attacked  two persons, Rabi Das and Dayanidhi Palai of the Vajpayee slum triggering the clash that left five persons including Das and Palai seriously injured.

An auto rickshaw was also set on fire during the clash.

The zonal ACP Nimain Charan Sahoo along with IICs of Saheed Nagar, Nayapalli and Chandrasekhapur reached the spot and brought the situation under  control after the police resorted to a mild lathicharge to disperse the warring groups .

Two platoons of police force have been deployed at the spot to prevent any further violence, sources said.

Six persons of Binayak Nagar slum have been detained for their involvement in the attack on the residents of the Vajpayee slum.
