New Delhi, Apr 15:
The petitioner in the Odisha chit fund scam case today submitted the names of three senior lawyers- who can possibly be the Amicus Curiae -to the learned bench of the Supreme Court to choose from.
The apex court had, on April 9, directed Jena to propose the names of three lawyers-one of whom can act as the Amicus Curiae in the case.
It may be noted here that the court direction followed the decision of the petitioner Jena to part ways with his advocate SC Tripathy who had been handling the case so far.
Amicus Curiae is a Latin phrase that literally means “friend of the court” — someone who is not a party to the litigation, but who believes that the court’s decision may affect its interest.
The learned bench will consider the proposed names and choose one of them to play the Amicus Curiae on April 23, sources informed.
The court asked Jena whether his former counsel SC Tripathy as well as the counsel for the Odisha government Shibashish Mishra had handed over all relevant documents to him or not. When the latter replied in negative, the court directed both the advocates to do the needful at the earliest.
