Paradip: The Paradip port authorities wrote to Union Ministry of Shipping urging to expedite the probe into cargo ship Black Rose, which sank into sea off Paradip coast in 2009.

Along with the letter, the port authorities have provided all the evidence for the investigation.

With the move, the mystery behind sinking of the Black Rose ship into sea is expected to be revealed.

The iron ore laden Mongolian ship ‘Black Rose’ sank off the Paradip coast on September 9, 2009 killing its Ukrainian chief engineer and injuring some other crew members.

Although, the exact reason behind the incident is yet to clear even after eight years, the wet iron ore loaded during heavy rain, listing of the ship and bad weather were attributed as the causes of the capsizing of the vessel.

A case in connection with sinking of the cargo ship was filed in the Calcutta High Court, which handed over the case to Orissa High Court on July 31, 2017.

The Paradip Port authorities in a letter to the Union Ministry have provided all the documents including the status report of case in the Orissa High Court and the initiatives taken by the port to check the pollution in the sea due to ship wreckage.

The experts said that the sunken ship with limited visibility above water could lead to serious accidents in future for the passing ships, trawlers and other floating crafts.
