Union Shipping ministry has praised the performance of the Paradip Port Trust (PPT) in cargo handling and overall growth record.
Reviewing the performance of the port here on Wednesday during his two-day office visit, secretary of the Union Shipping ministry Vishwapati Trivedi expressed satisfaction over the progress of the projects undertaken by the PPT.
He praised PPT chairman Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra and his team for the excellent growth of the port and for retaining the second position during the current financial fiscal in terms of record cargo handling of 108.50 million tonnes and the growth percentage registered among all the major ports of the country.
He also discussed with the representatives of the officers’ association and trade unions on several issues and appreciated their continuous support.
After visiting the mechanised coal handling plant, sidings, stockyard, worksite projects and berth side, Trivedi later inaugurated a newly built multi-storied modern trade centre in the Port Township and attended a meeting with all the officers of the port and felicitated officers and employees who had rendered dedicated service while attending to the works assigned to them during cyclone Phailin.
On the last leg of his visit, Trivedi will visit the port lagoon area, the light house at Puri and attend the inaugural session of the Portlore conference in Bhubaneswar today.
