The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrrested a Railway catering staff for allegedly molesting a woman in Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express on Thursday.
The arrested man has been identified as Dharmanand Mondal.
In a complaint lodged with the GRP, the victim said she was accompanying her mother to New Delhi in coach no-A1.
“The train left Tundla railway station at 9.30 AM. Later, I went to the bathroom at 9.45 AM. While I was inside the bathroom, there was a knock at the bathroom door. After I opened the door, the accused got in and molested me. Later, he went away after forcibly taking my mobile number,” the victim said.
The woman later came to her mother crying and narrated the incident. At this, the irate passengers overpowered Mondal and handed him over to the train superintendent.
Following information, general manager, Northern Railway, AK Puttiya directed the Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials to take immediate action.
As soon as the train arrived at New Delhi railway station, the GRP and RPF officials took the victim and her mother to the office of the chief station master where the RPF assistant commissioner Bhabaprita Soni took down the details from them.
Later, the GRP registered a case under section 342, 354 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and arrested Mondal.
