The Election Commission of India (ECI) today decided to hold bye-election to the lone vacant Rajya Sabha seat from Odisha on December 14.
While ECI will issue notification for the by poll on November 26, the last date for making of nominations has been fixed for December 3.
Similarly, scrutiny of nominations will be done on December 4 and the last date for withdrawal of candidatures has been fixed for December 7.
Besides, counting of votes will take place on December 14 at 5 pm and the election shall be completed before December 16, said the ECI notice.
The Upper House seat from Odisha had fallen vacant following the demise of senior BJD leader Kalpataru Das on July 25 this year. The BJD member’s term of office would have ended on April 2, 2020.
