Bhubaneswar, Aug 25
Intensifying its stir seeking special category status to Odisha, Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BYJD), the youth wing of BJD has decided to hold human chain protest in all district headquarters on August 27.
“As the Centre has declined to grant special tag to Odisha on the ground that it does not meet the norms, we have decided to organize a human chain to protest against the Centre and press for the legitimate right of the state,” said BYJD president Sanjay Dasburma announcing the plan of the party here today.
The youth wing of the party will stage the human chain for one hour from 10.30 am to 11.30 am on August 27 to protest the alleged apathy of the Union government towards the state, among the poorest states in the country, said Dasburma.
Criticizing the statement of Union Minister of State for Planning Rajiv Shukla, he said it was unfortunate that the Centre was looking in a negative way to the state.
Shukla ’s reply in the Rajya Sabha on the issue of disqualification of Odisha to get special category State (SCS) status had sparked widespread protest by the ruling BJD, which forced adjournments of the Assembly on Friday without allowing transaction of any business.
Besides, the party had also organized protest rally and its MLAs, including ministers, had submitted a memorandum to the Governor seeking special status for the state.
