Bhubaneswar, Jul 2:
Following the announcement by the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) about reduction in the price of diesel by 71 paise per litre with effect from Wednesday, bus fares in Odisha were reduced under the automatic mechanism today.
This is the second time bus fares in the state have been revised after the automatic mechanism was adopted by the government last month.
According to a notification by the Commerce and Transport department, the fare for ordinary buses has been reduced from 60 paise to 59 paise per km, express buses from 63 paise to 62 paise, delux buses from 84 paise to 82 paise and AC delux buses from Rs 1.05 to Rs 1.03 per km.
It may be mentioned that the state government had announced the implementation of the automatic mechanism for revision of fares on June 4 this year conceding a long-standing demand of the All Odisha Private Bus Owners’ Association.
Under the automatic mechanism system, rise and fall in bus fares would be determined based on the rise and fall of fuel prices.
