A gang of unidentified miscreants barged into the house of a businessman at Bijay Vihar in Samantarapur area under Dhauli police limits in the Odisha capital after breaking open the back door of the house in the wee hours of Wednesday and decamped with gold ornaments worth lakhs of rupees, Rs 30,000 in cash, a mobile phone and a laptop, police said.
In his complaint lodged with the police, Mohammed Shakir, a businessman by profession, stated that some unidentified persons barged into his house around 3.30 am after breaking open the back door His family members, who were sleeping, woke up to the noise.
Before anyone in the family could raise an alarm, the dacoits sprayed some sleep inducing substance leaving the family members unconscious. The dacoits decamped with gold and other valuable kept in the almirah after ransacking it, they added.
Admitting its failure in controlling crime in the area, Dhauli police officials said as the locality is newly established in the Samantarapur area, the police patrolling party fails to reach the place due to lack of connectivity into the colony where the loot occurred.
Meanwhile, the scientific team and dog squad of the commissionerate police reached the spot to investigate into the matter.
