Burglars break into house in Odisha capital; decamp with cash, gold

A gang of 5-6 armed robbers looted a retired teacher’s house at Shyampur under Khandagiri police limits in Odisha’s capital city in the wee hours of Tuesday.

According to police sources, the masked robbers entered into the house (plot number-790/1344) of retired teacher Prahalad Chandra Sahu near SUM hospital by cutting the grills and door locks of the house.

They terrorised the family members by brandishing fire-arms and sharp weapons and decamped with Rs 10,000 cash, 200 gram gold and 500 gram silver from the house.

Before leaving the house, they took the cell phone of Prahalad’s wife Snehalata, who later lodged a complaint with the Khandagiri police.

After getting a call from family members, the police rushed to the spot and investigated it.

According to Snehalata, the robbers entered the house around 3 AM and put the torch-light on her face before looting them at gun point. They terrorised her family members with sharp weapons.

Meanwhile, a scientific team and a dog squad of the Commissionerate police have  started inquiring into the matter.
