Brahmagiri, Dec 7:
Odisha forest officials on Tuesday afternoon rescued a bullet-ridden rare Woolly-necked Stork aka White-necked Stork in a critical condition.
“The bird is fighting for life at Brahmagiri forest range office in Puri district with its bullet-ridden broken right wing,” said a forest official.
Notably, the forest department records revealed that this rare species of bird had not come to Chilika in the last eight years.
They love to live in clean water and can grow up to 79 cms in length.
As the winter arrives, a wide species of rare birds from across the globe pay a visit to Chilika- the brackish water lagoon to get rid of extreme cold wave in their native region.
However, despite frequent patrolling and search operations, the state government has failed to provide these birds a safety home as hunters are no way ready to give up bird hunting.
