The Quick Action Team (QAT) of the Commissionerate Police arrested two brown sugar peddlers from Haldipadia slum in the Odisha Capital today.
The QAT seized 223 packets of brown sugar weighing 60 grams from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Dillip Singh (51) and Suresh Singh (26) of Patna in Bihar, presently staying at Haldipadia slum.
Acting on a tip-off that the duo was coming in an Indigo car to the city, the QAT intercepted the car near the Siridi Sai Temple near Tankapani Road in the wee hours on Monday.
Briefing newsmen later, twin city Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr RP Sharma said the accused were indulged in drug peddling in the city and selling brown sugar packets in Haldipadia slum, he added.
The two drug peddlers, after purchasing the narcotics from the neighbouring states and adding other additives, used to charge Rs 170 per packet from the customers in the slum areas of the city, he added.
“We have started operation in the city to check the drug peddling and other criminal activities under the jurisdiction of the Commissionerate Police” Sharma informed.
