Sundargarh, May 8:
The police on Wednesday night found the body of a polling official who had gone missing since the first phase polls in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on April 10.
According to reports, Diwan Mundhari (45) of Jobaghat Upper Primary School was appointed as fifth polling officer to conduct polling at a booth in the sadar constituency on April 10.
After the voting, he had returned with the polling party and submitted his report to the Returning Officer of the Sundargarh Sadar the same day.
But as he did not return to his house, his family informed the matter to the police and the concerned polling officers.
After 27 days of search, the Sadar police found the body of Mundhari lying in a highly decomposed state inside Podajalanga forest on Wednesday night.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the death of the polling official was due to excess consumption of liquor.
