In a show of strength ahead of the general elections, the state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is planning to assemble a crowd of over three lakh people in the first rally of the party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in the state to be held at the Baramunda ground here on February 11.
“We have made elaborate arrangements for the party workers, who will come from across the state to take part in the meeting. It would be a massive rally. Though we have planned for two lakh people, the number could well grow up to three lakh,” said BJP state president KV Singhdeo at a press conference here on Saturday.
Stating that the party had taken a number of steps to attract a large crowd for the meeting, he said elaborate arrangement have been made for transportation of people from various entry points in the capital city.
Modi will be accompanied by national BJP president Rajnath Singh and senior BJP leader and former chief minister of Jharkhand Arjun Munda to the state.
Convener of the rally, Bhrugu Baxipatra said about 15,000 youths have already registered to attend the meeting while members of the Mahila Morcha, the women’s wing of the party, are reaching out to every household through the Mehendi programme to encourage the participation of women.
He said that meetings are being held in all district units in which party workers and BJP sympathisers are being asked to attend the rally in big force.
CRPF personnel, along with the Gujarat police personnel and state police, are keeping a watch at the venue of the rally of BJP’s prime ministerial candidate.
Modi will reach in Bhubaneswar at 12.45 pm and reach the venue by 2 pm and will stay there till 2.30 to address the gathering.
