Expressing grave concern over instances of rape and molestation going on in several hotels and lodges in Odisha, the State BJP Mahila Morcha on Monday demanded strict implementation of the Sarai Act and immediate seizure of the lodges and hotels involved in such illegal activities.
Briefing newsmen after submitting a 5-point charter of demands to Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Nitinjeet Singh, president of the Morcha Simantini Jena said “Since most of the crimes, particularly rapes, are taking place in hotels and lodges in Bhubaneswar and most of them running illegally, we have urged the commissionerate police to keep a close watch on them”.
Besides, the Morcha has also demanded immediate seizure of Chandan Lodge in Baramunda in the city where a deaf and dumb girl was raped by her teacher, who is a Radio and TV Instructor of a Central vocational institute. She warned that the Morcha would gherao the DCP office on August 17 if its demands were not met by August 16.
Meanwhile, activists of Student Congress on Monday staged a road blockade on National Highway-5 near Vani Vihar square here in protest against the death of Mahakalpada rape and burn victim Sujata Bairagi last week. They demanded expeditious justice to the victim’s family and immediate arrest of the third accused involved in the heinous act.
