Dhenkanal, Aug 2:
Former MP and BJP leader Rudra Narayan Pani and Councillor Sudhanshu Dalei were today detained by police ahead of BJD’s Samavesh in Odisha’s Dhenkanal opposing the construction of projects in the upper catchment of river Mahanadi by Chhattisgarh government.
This apart, around 50 workers of the saffron party were detained, sources said. Seven platoons of police force have been deployed here to prevent any untoward situation.
It may be recalled that Pani was detained by police on Friday while protesting Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Das Burma’s visit to Angul district.
On the very day, some workers of BJP were allegedly beaten by BJD supporters in front of the Circuit House in Angul when the former were protesting the minister’s visit.
